5 Tips to Making an Ad for a Successful Campaign

You hear a lot about how effective ads are at growing a business. However, you don’t often hear how many companies lose money trying to get results.

And now that 70% – 80% of people ignore sponsored results, getting consumers’ attention is even more challenging.

If you don’t want to waste money on your advertising campaign, you’ll need to set your ads up the right way. Follow the five tips to making an ad below to improve your chances of making great ads.

Segment Your Audience

General messaging doesn’t do well online. You may be able to get a few customers here and there, but you aren’t targeting the people most likely to buy your products.

It makes more sense to segment your advertising audience and only target the people who have the highest chance of buying. When you do this, you can craft your messaging to better appeal to people and better explain how your product solves a problem.

Use Power Words

A great ad invokes emotion in the reader. You want people to feel something when thinking about their problems. Power words will help you do that.

Here are a few examples of power words to consider:

  • Amazing
  • Exclusive
  • Premiere
  • Ultimate
  • Eye-opening
  • Knockout

Think of the emotions that fit best with the products you offer and use power words to try and create those emotions.

Don’t Stop at One Ad

It’s a mistake to go all-in with one advertisement. There’s no guarantee that your ad will work, even if you use every piece of advice you have to make a great creative.

It makes more sense to create multiple ads initially as you collect performance data. Once you see which creatives perform best, you can cut the losers and work on optimizing the advertisements that show promise.

Use a Call to Action

It’s not enough to send someone to a page on your website. While some people may figure out what to do and make a purchase, that won’t be true for everyone.

Some people need an extra nudge to take action.

A call to action will improve your conversion rates and help you make more sales. Tell people what to do after consuming your content to get more people into your sales funnel.

Keep Things Simple

The last thing you want with an ad is to make a potential customer think too hard. If you have too complicated words and images to explain what you offer, you’re trying too hard to impress potential customers.

Keeping things simple is a better way to convey your messaging. Use simple words to describe your product and remove background from your images that distract from your main message. Nobody should have to do extra research to understand the message you’re trying to convey.

It doesn’t matter if you’re investing in Google ads, Instagram ads, or Facebook ads.
